Gumbo Ce Soir, an Austin, Texas based Cajun band, came together by their love for traditional Cajun music. They come from diverse backgrounds and bring unique elements to their own brand of traditional Cajun fiddle tunes. Gumbo Ce Soir has had the privilege of playing alongside Austin Cajun greats like Charles Thibodeaux of Austin Cajun Aces and Pete Schwartz, former member of Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys. They have entertained at popular places in Austin like The Evangeline Café, The Hole in the Wall, and Uncle Billy’s.

Proceeds benefit the French Legation Museum.

The Young Ambassadors’ Club, our new children’s storytime and activity club, will meet every first and third Thursday from 9:30AM-10:30AM in the Carriage House and in pretty weather on the Grounds. Parents and guardians are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and snacks, and all we ask of the children is that they bring their imaginations and excitement. Each child will receive a Young Ambassador badge and will be encouraged to participate in activities that are closely related to the theme of each week’s book or books. They will also be able to help us pick out books or themes for future meetings through our Diplomatic Dispatch Box.

This is a donation based program that is free and open to the public. If you would like to support the Young Ambassador’s Club, donations can be made at the FLM Offices at 802 San Marcos Street, Austin, TX 78702.

***February 16, 2012 meeting cancelled due to renovations in the Carriage House Offices. ***

Students will have the opportunity to participate in a mock archeological dig, build their own miniature log cabins and boats, and do a bit of gardening. Special excursions to local farms and the Susanna Dickinson House will highlight the week.

Participants in session 3 will fast forward through Texas history to learn about each of the countries that claimed Texas as their own. From conquistadors, to the sinking of La Belle, to Texas Independence, Statehood and the Civil War, we’ll explore the history and impact each of these unique cultures has had on Texas with fun activities, hands on projects and crafts, and visits with reenactors.  Special trips to the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum and the State Cemetery will round out our adventures.
